Song: Five Lean and Hungry Mice

Page history last edited by Meredith Ann Pierce 16 years, 7 months ago

"Five Lean and Hungry Mice"

Mice are another winner with Preschool / Kindergarten audiences because young children naturally identify with creatures that are small, cute, and hungry.

This song uses the same energetic tune as "Five Green and Speckled Frogs."

Five lean and hungry mice

Pilfered a box of rice,

Looking for tasty things to eat.

          Yum!  Yum!

They scampered up to the top.

Squeaking, they went hip, hop,

Longing to get that crunchy treat.

          Yum!  Yum!

Five lean and hungry mice

Dived right into the rice,

     Munchity-munch,

     They ate a bunch.

          Yum!  Yum!

Now no more hungry mice,

And no more box of rice--

Just fat and sleepy little mice.

          Ho hum!

(wiggle fingers)

(mimic carrying a box)

(shade eyes)

(rub tummy)

(hand scampers up imaginary box)

(hand hops up and down)

(clasp hands imploringly)

(rub tummy)

(wiggle fingers)

(dive hand into imaginary box)

(open and close hand like a mouth eating)

(rub tummy)

(wag forefinger)

(throw hands up in surprise)

(rub tummy, lay head on hands as if in sleep)

(cover mouth and yawn)
