Song: Hands Go Up

Page history last edited by Meredith Ann Pierce 16 years, 5 months ago

Hands Go Up

An ideal opener and closer for Preschool / Kindergarten storytimes.  Tune is "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star."  (Kids must be on their feet to start.)

Here's the opening version.

Hands go up, and hands go down.

I can turn around and around.

I can hop upon one shoe.

I can nod and so can you.

I can sit; I'll show you how.

Storytime is starting now.

(raise arms; lower arms)

(twirl with arms outstretched for balance)

(hop)

(nod, pointing to self, then pointing to audience)

(sit down)

And here's the ending version.  (Be sure to explain that pau means finished in Hawaiian.)

Hands go up, and hands go down.

I can turn around and around.

I can hop upon one shoe.

I can nod and so can you.

I can wave; I'll show you how.

Storytime is now all pau.*

(raise arms; lower arms)

(twirl with arms outstretched for balance)

(hop)

(nod, pointing to self, then pointing to audience)

(wave)

* finished

If, for some reason, you don't want to use the Hawaiian word, use "Storytime is over now" as the last line.
